September 16, 2008 - Nightfall concert was a big success! John did a great job, along with Smitty, Tim, and Cady. Many compliments from the crowd and a few CDs were sold. The Be Good Tonyas were a hit as well, we matched their style pretty well. We went to eat at the City Cafe and on the way back, John saved a guys life. He passed out on the sidewalk and was choking, John rolled him on his side and kept him going until the ambulance arrived. Way to go John! September 11 - Played at the Fall Creek Falls Mountaineer Folk Festival. Small crowd who were very quiet and listened to every note. Tim Starnes had a fiddle malfunction but carried on with lap steel and harmonica. The 1 hour show was well liked and we received many compliments from the Rangers. We'll be back in September 2006 - if you like the outdoors and are tired of the city heat, join us this year - the weekend after Labor Day - we're camping this time!
August 14, Yesterday John and Friends played at the festival behind the old sock mill. The sound system was huge but the crowds had not yet built up to our expectations. Still, the band was playing well and we had an appreciative, if small, audience. We got to hear and speak with Dan Landrum and Kyote, his drummer, who played right before us. Dan plays the Hammer Dulcimer for Yani and other international artists, and can be seen on Saturday and Sunday at the Tennessee Aquarium plaza in downtown Chattanooga.
June 10 - RIVERBEND WALNUT ST BRIDGE AMSOUTH STAGE - We're sitting at Bad Ass Coffee Company, 4th and Market, Chattanooga, having a sandwich and getting stoked for the show tonight. Riverbend is a big downtown festival, and we are opening the Bridge stage (Amsouth) underneath the Walnut St walking bridge. A little rain in the area, so since we're the only stage under cover, we are expecting a huge crowd. Ray Laliberte and his stage crew have us all set and we're ready to do a great show. Look for our interview on WTCI channel 45 TV tonight in the Riverbend summary Show.
June 10, 2005 During APRIL 2005 John performed Sundays from 6 to 9 pm at the River Inn Restaurant, Suck Creek Yacht and Country Club, on the Tennessee River Gorge, 3 miles down Suck Creek Road off Signal Mtn. Road. The Chef is a great guy and will make a special meal if you ask. It's Folk with a Country Flair, and fine seafood dishes are prepared while you wait, also fried seafood and steaks to order. Beer only, BYOB. SAT APR 2, 10:30 am and 1 pm Tunnel Hill Celtic and Historical Festival, Tunnel Hill Georgia, 20 miles south of Chattanooga off I-75. This festival featured Highland Games, Civil War Reenactors, and crafts. But man was it cold! We warmed ourselves by listening to CD's in Tim's car. Tim says he can play the Rossville days gig with us in August, when we'll work with Montgomery Gentry. We're also talking with Rock City to play at the Corn Maze This year,
SATURDAY MARCH 19 at 5 PM Chattanooga Peace March, Miller Park, corner of MLKing and Market St, Downtown Chattanooga. John and Steve played 60s peace songs from 5 to 6 pm at the rally. There were about 125 people there and some good speakers, including a native Iraqi and some local notables.
SAT MAR 12, 8pm to 11pm We sat down to play Bad Ass Coffee House, corner of 4th and Market St, Downtown Chattanooga and we were joined by Tom Sanders on mandolin. Drank some really fine Hawaiian Kona coffee, several folks came to sit on the couch, and groove to the Sounds of Folk, Celtic, Irish, and traditional music. Bad Ass serves great coffee drinks, and a selection of sandwiches, breads, wraps, and beer. *Note: 2006 - Bad Ass moved to Hixson, near Northgate.*
